The threat was made to Port Chester Middle School on Wednesday, Feb. 28, the school district announced.

After the threat was received, all Port Chester schools were immediately put into lockdowns, which were eventually lifted later in the day.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident, school officials said, adding that students and staff would remain in their classrooms until the investigation's conclusion except for lunch and bathroom breaks.

"Everyone is safe. Thank you for your patience," officials said in an announcement on Wednesday.
